When Holidays Go Wrong

Millions of people travel abroad each year looking for clear blue skies, white beaches and great weather. For many, they enjoy their holiday and are suitably relaxed and ready for the work once more. However, for some dream holidays can quickly turn into a nightmare as accidents can easily occur if you are not careful or are unfortunate enough to be staying in below standard accommodation.
Illness and Sickness
One of the most common problems on holiday is illness. A significant number of us get ill at some point during our holidays but most put it down to not being customised to the local cuisine. However, Salmonella and E-Coli are found in restaurants and cafes that do not met the necessary health and safety standards. If this is the case then you may be entitled to compensation.
If there are other people you may have met also fell ill after eating at the same restaurant then get a signed statement from them which will support your case. To try and avoid food poisoning get a feel for a restaurant or cafe first, now it will be hard to walk into the kitchen and inspect it but if the main restaurant area is not clean there is a good chance the kitchen area won’t be either.
Slips and Falls
Another frequent holiday accident claim is from slips and falls which can occur due to a number of reasons. The main one has to be in hotels where wet floors from people being in the swimming pool are common occurrence. Balconies are also a dangerous accessory to a hotel room if they are not secured and maintained to a sufficient standard. Wherever there are wet floors, there should be signs telling you so. Failure to do so and you get seriously injured would mean you are entitled to compensation.
Slips and falls are common on holidays with the majority being minor. However, if you are seriously injured take a few pictures of the area you fell to show there were no signs and keep any medical bills you had to pay (if medical assistance was required). Do your best to avoid slipping by keeping your wits about you, wet floors are everywhere in hotels especially so walk and don’t run.
Adventure activities
Many people like some adventure of their holidays so activities such as jet-skiing and scuba diving are ideal as they are great fun and good to cool down from the heat. However, these types of activities to pose some risk and if you are unfortunate enough to get injured from them, compensation may be available.
Take care on your holiday but if you are unfortunate enough for anything to happen such as illness or injury then consider your options as there may be grounds to make a holiday accident claim.
