Global Travel Insurance

The travel industry is going through a difficult time at the moment due to the economic problems. However, the plus side for holiday makers is that there are more deals on vacations abroad. Travelling abroad, it is essential you have holiday insurance, the best example being the recent problems we have had with swine flu. Without insurance you could end up with large hospital bills and some people were even stranded on holiday. For those with holiday insurance the extra hotel and flight costs should have been covered.

Your family need not travel together all the time either. Anyone who is signed up tot the family or group policy can enjoy insurance cover wherever they travel to, whether they do so with the family in tow or not.

Even more money can be saved when you opt for a policy that provides free cover for children. Some companies will offer free insurance for any child travelling with a named adult, while some will only offer complimentary cover to children who are aged two or under.

Am I covered if I get swine flu before I go on vacation?

Yes you should be – most comprehensive travel insurance policies will cover your for costs incurred when you have to delay or cancel your trip because of either your illness or that of a traveling companion. You may also be covered if a close family member gets ill – check the fine print.

Some restrictions do apply to family policies. As well as some policy providers restricting the number of children who can be named on a policy, they may also restrict the age of those children. Older children named on a policy may wish to travel separately from parents but for your group insurance to be valid, they must travel with one of the adults named on the policy.

As travellers over the age of sixty-five are considered to have a much higher medical risk than younger family members, people in this age group cannot usually obtain group or family insurance. It is possible for someone in this age group to be named on such a policy, but you should expect to pay a much higher premium to do so.

You’ll seriously reduce your choices if you leave finding your cover until the last minute. This can also leave you very little opportunity to check the small print of your insurance documents. Make certain that you’re clear on the areas that the travel insurance policy covers. Determine what is the amount you need to cover yourself if you need to make a claim. Plan in advance and decide on the best options when finding cheap worldwide travel insurance.
