Camping in North Carolina offers spectacular natural beauty. There are also historical towns full of charm. The state borders Tennessee on the west, Virginia in the north and Georgia and South Carolina in the south. Trails for hikers, bikers and horses are available. Gorges, mountains, forests, waterfalls and other scenic natural sites abound.

How to decide the camp location in North Carolina

As there so many options, the best way to limit the possibilities is to decide what type of camping trip you are looking for. Do you want to make it as natural as possible? Would you prefer available showers and water? Do cabins for rent appeal? Do you have an RV you would like to take with you to a recreational vehicle park? Are there special events you want to visit as well?

Some tips for travelers

You should do your research to make the most of this opportunity. Going online opens up a whole host of sources, including the state’s useful resources that can guide you in planning your trip. Planning ahead will certainly improve the quality of your experience.

Keep the following in mind: chairs and coolers cannot help you stake your claim to a spot next to yours at campsites in national parks. Tents must be set up. If you try to use chairs and coolers to stake claim to a spot, they will removed and placed in the lost and found.

Locating the destination of choice

Online many websites are available to help you narrow your choice. There are general sites that provide information and specific sites such as those for state and national parks and also individual camp websites (once you have narrowed your search and are looking for more details). A useful book about tent campsites for those interested in going this way is the guidebook entitled The Southern Appalachian & Smoky Mountains that even has a list of top locations such as the Standing Indian Campground in Franklin, NC; the Black Mountain Campground in Burnsville, NC; Linville Falls Campground in Spruce Pine, NC to name a few. Some readers might want to stop with the top 20 list in this book;but, it is useful to know that the choice is broad and plentiful to satisfy even the most finicky traveler.

How to make the most of your experience in NC

Think ahead. Plan and prepare. You will have a camping vacation that memories are made of with just a little forethought.

How To Pick Ideal Camping Locations

Camping in Amsterdam
Image via Wikipedia

There is no dearth of campgrounds across America. The craze for camping out has only grown over the last two years with both fitness and New Age gurus speaking emphatically about the importance of spending time with Nature. Going from your workplace and home air-conditioning to hotel-room air-conditioning can never match the experience of spending your holidays beneath a star-studded sky.

If you are a first-time camper do look for a location near your home. This is more for security reasons as, in case of a problem, help will be more easily accessible. Even otherwise, whether you’re camping out alone, with family or friends, check on the security measures at a campground. This should be your first priority even before you decided on a camping holiday.

Price, of course, will be a crucial deciding factor for your holiday. Many campgrounds that do not have options for outdoor activities charge a smaller admission and camping fee.

In fact, camping has developed as a popular family option so you can also pick campgrounds that facilitate extra activities like hobby classes and options for hiking. Some camping locations also offer boating and swimming if they are near lakes and rivers. Most camping locations are stopover points on a hiking or cycling trail. You can choose to go on a hiking or cycling holiday and combine a mid-way camping break with it too.

If you don’t intend to camp out often, you may want to check out camping locations that  also lend out camping equipment like tents, flashlights, campfire cooking accessories and  other stuff.

A lot of information on all the popular camping locations in America is available on the Internet. You can check these out and also consider whether you want to choose your own site at a camping site or let one be assigned to you.

My Dad Always Said, It’s Better To Be Safe Than Sorry

I didn’t start paying attention to health or injuries that happen while travelling or on vacation until my parents started getting older and wintering in Florida.

Dad had a heart attack about the 5th year they went to Florida for the winter and it was the last year they went without the proper medical coverage.

For most of us we don’t think about the risks involved in travelling away from home for our vacations. I guess we tend to think it won’t happen to us, until it’s too late.

I don’t want to sound morbid but sometimes it does actually happen to me and not the other guy and all of a sudden we have medical expenses that can ruin not just our vacation but it can put us in  a whole lot of debt.

Even a small brake could cost you a lot of money as it all depends on where you are travelling to.

A Smart Traveller Gets Travel Insurance.

The best thing to do is to go and get travel insurance as this will protect you against nearly everything that could possible go wrong abroad including breaks and if the worst comes to it will provide family with a large sum of money if a death occurs on holiday.

Other things that are covered are:

  • Cover for lost or stolen passports
  • Cover for emergency medical expenses
  • Cancellation cover
  • Lost luggage is possible to be covered for
  • Your own money

Travel insurance could really benefit you if something goes wrong on holiday which is something that nobody expects but sadly does happen from time to time.

Of course if you are thinking of getting a car out there make sure you get out some car hire insurance to make sure that if something goes wrong there you have everything you need covered. As well as this if you are taking your own car and own a Sat Nav it is also possible to now get that insured with Sat Nav insurance so that even if that breaks on you it can be repaired with no extra cost at all to you.

2004 New Brunswick license plate, scanned from...
Image via Wikipedia

New Brunswick Canada for most of my life was just a place I had family I never knew. It wasn’t until I was in my early 20s that I was able to finally visit and I immediately regretted not having visited before that. So many rivers and lakes that the scenery never stops. Oh yeah it was great meeting family I hadn’t seen since before I can remember.

New Brunswick has some great scenic routes that the following video will show you. It’s an opportunity that you don’t want to miss is you are thinking about travelling to our neck of the woods.

Travelling? Take a scenic tour of New Brunswick Canada.

There is so much to see and do in New Brunswick all year long, but for me as a guy that’s hooked on fishing I much prefer the warmer months. I leave the winter months to working online and of course to travel to warmer destinations so I can keep fishing.

New Brunswick is so beautiful that sometimes it’s just tough to keep fishing when the scenery is so breath taking. It’s great to take my lunch with me, now that I live here, and feed my eyes at the same time I am feeding my belly.

When fall comes around and the leaves start changing colour it looks like an artist painted the landscape every colour in the rainbow. Those days are really tough to keep your eye on the fly, as they say. I am just looking everywhere at the colours.

Enjoy The Beauty of New Brunswick Fall Colours
