Many of us have heard the horror stories associated with resale timeshare scams over the years.  We’ve heard of companies doing everything short of holding a gun to your head to make you buy.  The general impressions of the industry are negative. So how can you avoid getting taken advantage of in this cutthroat business?

It’s a pretty good bet that you shouldn’t even get involved in the first place. Timeshare companies are notorious for saying just about anything to get you to come to their “presentation,” only to then keep you hostage until you eventually drool, your eyes glaze over, and you sign on the dotted line. (At least, that’s what they hope is going to happen.) You’ve seen the advertisements: “free tickets and complementary hotel accommodations for three days and two nights at a beautiful resort. For this, we just want you to take a small tour of our resort. Give us your feedback, and enjoy your stay!”

Sound familiar? Most of us have heard something like this over the years.

However, what you didn’t hear was that the person you’re talking to is actually just taking your money and selling the rights to your tour to some other company.  Along the way your reservation and all the things you were promised have a good chance of getting lost in the shuffle.

Resorts suite? It’s not likely. Yes, you paid for it, but it’s not likely to be there once you get there.

Then you get to the 90 minute “tour” portion of your “vacation”. What they forgot to mention is that the 90 minutes really turns into 6 hours and it’s not so much a tour as it is a negotiating room. 

They’ll start out by telling you how much money you’re wasting by not owning a timeshare. They position it as you’d have to be some kind of an idiot to not buy the timeshare immediately.

Then they’ll throw out some hugely inflated number that you don’t even spend on several years’ worth of vacationing. And even if you could use this timeshare at that rate, it’s not likely that this business is going to be around for that 20 years, because of course they are a fly-by-night operation.

If you muster up enough courage to tell the first salesman “no”, they’ll look at you like you’re stupid and bring in a “closer”. The closer will then throw another offer at you that is usually less than half the price of the first offer to make you think you’re getting a deal. 

If you still hold your ground and say “no,” someone else will corner you yet again to give you a “survey” that supposedly ascertains how you were treated. However part of the survey is to get you to buy at a price that’s about 33% of the initial one.

If you do go, stay firm. Don’t fall for any of their tactics and if you don’t want to buy, don’t. You should never let someone pressure you into buying something you don’t need or want. Not only will it feel like wasted money, but it really will be, because you might walk away with nothing after you’ve handed over your cash. It’s just not worth it, is it?

When it comes to booking yourself Cambridge vacations, you can visit this very historic town at just about any time of year you want. Certainly, there is plenty for one to do and see why visiting this University town. It's easy to get to Cambridge. The city has good connections by road, rail or even air. You can fly in to Stansted airport and reach Cambridge in around twenty minutes.

However, do not expect to see everything of interest in just one day you will really need several to explore it. But along with exploring Cambridge itself, there are plenty of places close by that may be of interest to you as well.

The minds of people such as Charles Darwin and, more recently, Stephen Hawking, have been inspired by the city of Cambridge. If possible, you should endeavor to make the time to visit one of England's oldest universities. In fact, in 2009, this University will have been established for 800 years and so celebrations will take through out the year.

Along with wandering around the grounds of the various seats of learning in the city, there are plenty of other things that one can do. There is a top class shopping centre together with a wide range of bars, cafes and restaurants. As for accommodation, there is something to suit all budgets, from luxury hotels through to guesthouses and bed and breakfast houses as well. Plus if your budget is really limited, there are hostels and campsites also.

As well as many historic buildings to view, there are plenty of festivals and events taking place in the city, throughout the year. The gardens of the college see the Shakespeare Season in the summer. At other times of the year, you can hear recitals or listen to concerts in various churches and college chapels.

If you're looking for "culture" during your vacation, you've come to the right place. However, you can have a more active time at one of the city's many sports and leisure centres. For a leisurely or competitive game of golf, there are at least two top quality golf courses for you to test. For golfers, you can choose from the Cambridge Lakes Golf Course and the long established Gog Magog Golf Club.

However, if you are bringing children with you to the City then there are plenty of places for them to enjoy as well. Just a few miles away from Cambridge is the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey. You can have a great day out no matter how young or old you are. You'll discover how our farming has developed over the years and how farming has changed with it.

Above we have looked at few attractions and things that one can do when you stay in Cambridge. Certainly, you may find that a weekend's stay is not sufficient to take in everything that this historic and beautiful city has to offer you.
